Discover the fascinating history of this monument built as a Memorial after the First World War.  We will take a guided tour of the commemorative spaces, special exhibitions, and personal stories that make the Shrine a Living Monument.

3 DAY ART SILO TRAIL 4th - 6th OCTOBER 2022

 

            Enjoy a 3 Day Silo Art Trail Bus trip with the Watsonia 50s Plus Club Inc,

Celebrates the rich heritage of Victoria's Wimmera/Mallee region with a journey along the Silo Art Trail, the country's biggest outdoor gallery. Cruise from town to town and witness this innovative art project that sees renowned street artists from Australia and across the globe transform wheat silos into giant works of art. The trail brings together internationally recognised street artists –Rone (Yyrone Wright), Guido van Helten, Fintan Magee, Matt Adna te, Julia Volchkova, Kaff-eine, –and takes in a number of Victoria's smallest towns. You can find these momentous murals in Sheep Hills, Brim, Patchewollock, Lascelles, and Rupanyup. A unique art project that is still evolving, the Silo Art Trail has already revitalised the towns and brought thousands of new visitors to the region.

 Day 1 Melbourne to Swan Hill, with a tour of local sites and check into the Jane Eliza Motor Inn

Day 2 Silo Art Trail – Swan Hill to Horsham. There are stops along the art trail and a two-course meal at the Creekside Hotel Warracknabeal then continuing the art trail to Horsham and staying at the Best Westlander Motor Inn.

Day 3 – Horsham to Melbourne stopping for a late lunch at the Ararat RSL

There are 4 distinct themes in these beautiful gardens Japanese, English, Exotic, and Bonsai.  There are numerous statues, fountains, and ponds to discover throughout the garden.

We will then journey to the Sunbury Club on our way home and will be provided with a 2-course lunch before heading back to Watsonia.

BUS TRIP TO BELEURA HOUSE AND GARDENS ON TUESDAY 24th MAY 2022

 

Beleura was built on the Mornington Peninsula in 1863.  Its final owner was the composer John Tallis who bequeathed Beleura to the people of Victoria in memory of his late father, Sir John Tallis, well known for his theatre work with J.C. Williamson Ltd.

This trip opens for 36 people and will include either a Guided House Tour or a Guided Tour of the Gardens including Morning Tea and an introduction to the story of Beleura.

ELVIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST PUBLIC ICON FIGURES OF THE 20 CENTURY. HIS INFLUENCE ON CULTURE, MUSIC, FASHION, AND POP CULTURE WAS PROFOUND. THERE WILL BE OVER 300 ITEMS ON DISPLAY FROM HIS COLLECTION INCLUDING ELVIS AND PRICILLA’S WEDDING OUTFITS AND HIS VEGAS JUMPSUITS.

We will spend the morning at the Discovery Centre where we have the opportunity to have tours of the beautiful wetlands. LUNCH will consist of sandwiches cake and fruit platters provided at the Centre.
We will then board our bus and be given a guided tour on the historical aspects of Yea before heading back to Watsonia.

TRAMBOAT NEXT STOP WILLIAMSTOWN

The Watsonia 50s Plus Club outing on Tuesday 18th May 2021 is a cruise on the Tramboat to Williamstown. Included on the cruise is morning tea and Fish "N" Chips for lunch on our return journey to Docklands.
We catch the No 86 Tram from Bundoora Square to the Docklands, the Tramboat is located at Shed 9 Victoria Harbour Docklands, directly opposite Marvel Stadium.
Departs Victoria Harbour at 10.30 am, we cruise downstream along the Yarra through the Port of Melbourne, past Swanson Dock under Westgate Bridge, out into Hobson's Bay where we approach the historic Sea Port of Williamstown.
Delicious Fish "N" Chips will be delivered to the Tramboat for our return trip.

Bus trip to Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Arboretum

Tuesday 20th April 2021
We will be departing at 9 am from the corner of Elder Street & Delta Road, Greensborough and stopping for morning tea at the Arboretum.
The Arboretum has become an extremely attractive local park, popular for outdoor weddings and photographs. It is an ideal educational facility that can be appreciated by the inexperienced and experienced gardeners and tree lovers alike. Then off to Frankston City Centre to see the Murials, All the Green Year, Alice in Wonderland and Stacked Bookshelves.

WATSONIA 50S PLUS CLUB RE-OPENS MONDAY 3rd FEBRUARY 2020

Zumba Gold classes on Monday mornings have been cancelled until further notice as Deb has injured her back and must rest up.
Thursday Aerobics classes will continue, as Betty will now be running these classes until Deb returns.
